Term 1, Week 4, Lesson 2

In todays lesson, I continued planning my animation, I also looked further into possible ready made animations on the internet that I could adapt. I then realised that I could create a simpler version without paying the large price tag. I created a simple mannequin using 3d Max, and this is the foundation of my project.

I am compromising on the realism of the mannequin by creating it myself, I want the lips to really stand out in my animation, therefore I am going to download these of turbo squid, I think the cost is beneficial to the amount of time it will take the create the lips.

I started creating my anaimation this week, and I am really excited yet nervous about the process.

Term 1, Week 4, Lesson 1

In todays lesson I continued looking for inspiration for my 3d animation, i found several pictures on google, that replicated the look and feel I want to create for my animation.
After using 3D max, i have realised that the design of my manaquin needs to be simple, these examples show the look I would like to create for my animation.

The mannaquin is going to be black, because I want the lips to stand out.

Term 1, Week 3

This week, I continued planning for my animation. I created a time management chart on Microsoft excel, this will help me to plan my time efficently during lesson and homework time.

At home, I continued to plan my animation, I created mood boards and took primary photographs of different mannequins and pearls which have given me inspiration for my animation. I also prepared a detailed written proposal which outlines all aspects of the animation aswell as detailed drawings.

Proposal for 3D Animation- “Pearls”

After using 3D max, I soon begun to realise what I could achieve on 3D studio max. I did not want to over complicate my design, as I am a beginner using this software, therefore I choose a design that is both challenging and achievable. I wanted to reflect aspects of my character within the animation, after looking around my personal space for ideas; I then started to develop an idea, which is realistic in the time period set for this project. I started to collect potential background and photographs that will inspire my design.

I want the animation to look and feel “classic” with a simple theme and design. My animation will consist of a simple but elegant mannequin, which will be black, with distinctive red lips. The mannequin will be wearing lots of textured pearls on the wrists, ears and around the neck, after the camera has panned around the mannequin which will give a voyeuristic and romantic feel to the animation, the camera will then smash into the mannequin knocking it about to create a shaky feel. Six pearls will drop one by one onto the floor where the word “pearl’ will be revealed which is my chosen production company name, this is the last thing that will be seen in my animation and I believe is an appropriate way to reveal the name as it is in keeping with the classic design and feel of the animation. The mannequin will not move during the animation, the camera will be the only thing that moves, I want the animation to feel romantic and dark, this will also be reflected by the low lighting, which will be above the head, and on both the left and right hand bottom sides of the animation, the light intensity will only be 0.5 to help portray my desired look and feel for the animation.

I only want a few distinctive things to stand out in my animation for instance the lips, which will be bright red against the black mannequin and the floral background. I have chosen a floral black and gray background, as it is my bedroom wallpaper; this shares an aspect of my personality and makes the animation more personal.

I believed I have chosen a relatively realistic design for my first animation. I also want to challenge my creative capabilities by choosing a demanding and time consuming design.

Term 1, Week 2, lesson 2

In todays lesson, I carried on playing around with 3d max studio, I added objects to the table, I had to ensure the scale of the objects were correct. I also learnt how to add cloth.
I am feeling more confident with the program.

Term 1, Week 2

Today, the class was given an larger insight into the software that we would be using to create our animation, it is called Autodesk 3d max. After been shown what can be achieved in the program, I then had to make a table from scratch, this was a difficult process, I learnt how to use textures and the clone tool. I think with practise this programm will be easier to use.

I have also collected potential backgrounds for my animation from wallpaper cuttings, I want a vintage/rustic feel for my product, therefore the backgrounds I have collected reflect this.

Term 1, Week 1, Lesson 2

Today in lesson time, the class was taught through a simple co-ordinates system that is used on 3D Studio max, the work sheet that I had to complete was tough and reminded me of being back at school, but it was relatively simple once i got the hang of it.

Then, the class was taught through drawing perspective and top views of animation, I learnt that light intensity runs from 0-1, this means that 0.5 is about half way and 1 has the strongest light intensity.

I also begun to think about textures and achieving my animation, I did simple rough drawings to get a visual idea of how my animation will end up looking, I am excited but apprehensive about using 3D studio max.

After this, I then begun to start drawing storyboards for my 3D animation, this needs to be completed as homework by Monday 11th January.

Term 1, Week 1

This is the first lesson of 3D animation, after having a short insight into the unit and watching some relevant pixar animations, I then had to start brainstorming proposal ideas.

One of my main interests lies within fashion therefore I want to portray this in my animation, I want to use a simple piece of jewelery for instance pearls and create a animation around this really simple object. My production company will be entitled 'pearls'. On a silver background will be a very simple but elegant black silhouette, pearls will smother this silhouette, the camera will then smash into the static silhouette and the pearls will drop one by one on the the floor, the camera will then pan down to the floor, and then will roll around for a split second, the pearls when they eventually stop, will have to word pearl on them. Each pearl will have one letter, and will join together to make my production company title.

The lighting in my animation will be very simplistic, one light will shine on the left hand side of the silhouette to create dramatic yet effective lighting.

I think this is a simple idea that is both achievable and challenging.

This is an example of a silhouette, for my 3D animation I am going to create a much simpler version of this, my silhouette will also be black.
